We had all these kids now in custody. And they were all starting to talk and give stories about what happened.

The cops are doing what cops do, which is in these investigations. They can lie. They can say they know more than they do.

They can say they've got evidence that implicates a suspect trying to get him to confess. They did all of those things.

So then you feel like, well, okay, he has to defend himself. So they played us against each other. They played the boys against each other.

Today we're continuing our coverage of the Netflix series when they see us.

And other documentaries like The Central Park 5, as well as many other articles and TV shows and resources that cover the rape and attempted murder of Patricia Miley in Central Park on April 19, 1989.

It was a huge story when they were being hunted and arrested and then prosecuted.

And it was a blip where when their convictions were vacated and when later they won a $41 million settlement from New York City.

And that only happened when there is a tremendous amount of evidence that they are not guilty as opposed to just vacating their convictions and waiting for a new trial.

Some people say that they were exonerated, some people say that their convictions were vacated. Is there a difference?

Yeah, so under the law there is no such thing as exoneration.

There is no trial which has a result that says the defendant is exonerated.

What happens though is when they do get someone who actually confesses and have forensic evidence to link them to crime, as you do in this case with Matthias Reyes, whose semen was actually identified on and in the victim, that is great evidence for a conviction of rape.

However, the statute of limitations had already run by the time he had made this disclosure and confession and that they actually got the forensic evidence together so they could not actually try him for that.
