Topic today is M and culture and bringing up children and I'm

going to do it all in like 10 minutes. Each Christian community is in itself a little mini culture in the middle of a secular culture.

And so of course there's traffic both directions and we don't want the secular culture to be shaping our children

though that is very much what they want to do. It's the parents whom God is

assigned to be the central culture-building force in their children's lives, which is why parents are

responsible before God for how their children are doing. And parents, as you know, are

to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord

that's Ephesion 64 and this includes teaching them to fear the Lord first and

foremost as well as feeding and protecting them educating educating them, overseeing their growth and

development in all the areas. Being a parent is a huge blessing and a

tremendous responsibility.

So we must not squander it.

We have to take all of our opportunities.

Today I'm going to hone in on just one aspect of child training,

and that's the subject of manners.

As our cultural heritage erodes away, its Christian foundation is also crumbling

and it's no longer expected that people are going to be civil to one

another as is evidenced in so many ways but I don't have time to go into all that.

What about our children? Well we want to bring them up with a heavy emphasis on how we behave

toward others, starting with the others in our own homes and working its way out.
