Summary

The adoption process is complicated and difficult. A lot of that is because of baby farms that existed and became more prevalent in the 1800's. This is the story of Amelia Dyer who started one such baby farm, but ultimately took a very dark turn when she and her daughter started to cut corners.

So we are going to be in London, England in the late 1800s.

Amelia Elizabeth Hobbley was born into a very large family.

She was the last of five children, and her

dad was a shoemaker, and he was successful, and she lived there with her dad and her mom, Sarah.

They lived in a small village called Pyle Marsh. Now, this town and this little village was just

east of Bristol. While they weren't the

richest in the village, they still did very well for themselves. And because Samuel was such a good

shoemaker, this allowed him to pay for all five kids to attend school. And Amelia was a really good student.

She learned to read and write.
