When you're building an online business or any business, one of the first things we have to do is get known.

0:05.0

We have to get people to discover us.

0:06.0

And we also need to create some kind of authority so that people actually really want to pay attention to us.

0:11.0

I want to share with you what that looked like for me at the beginning of my journey and some really simple ideas for what you could do to help you get known and create that authority for yourself.

So I know I talked in a previous episode in this series about networking and how powerful it is. Honestly, networking online and offline is really the easiest and simplest way for you to start

0:35.8

creating visibility quickly for your business.

0:39.3

And when you do that, the next step you can take to help create even more visibility is to become the host.

0:46.3

When I say that, I mean you host something, you host an online event, you host an in-person event,

0:52.3

which you might be like, whoa, like, what the heck?

0:54.7

1:05.0

So I put them on a pedestal. Like they are the authority to me. They are the host of that event. And I look at them differently me they are the host of that event and I look at

1:11.8

them differently they are the owner of that space and same when I attend a virtual event

1:17.5

or an in-person event and so for me early on I was like okay I need to start bringing

1:23.2

people together into my space so I'm the host of it. I had no experience hosting events whatsoever,

1:30.0

but because I'd attended events, I'd seen like this is how they work and this is typically how

1:34.2

they go. I decided I was going to host my own. I put the whole thing together and I invited the people

1:40.6

that I had been networking and connecting with through LinkedIn in particular and through

1:45.9

in-person events. I remember hosting this event. I invited a bunch of people. It was about 60 people,

1:51.2

so we sold tickets. It was a paid event and that included a drinks token that you got on arrival

1:56.4

and canapes. And then I also sold stands. So a few women paid a bit extra to have like a stand there and to have their like products and services on display.

2:04.6

I then also thought about famous people that lived in the area, did some digging and researching to find out where they lived and actually went and posted invites through their letter boxes.
