Porn Free Radio, episode 192.

Back in 2015, I recorded an episode of porn free radio that I bet you haven't listened to.

It was episode 50, and it was called The Real Scandal Behind Ashley Madison.

Now, if you don't remember, Ashley Madison was this sort of naughty hookup site for married people who wanted to have affairs. It was a way to sort of, you know,

you know, search for potential affair partners. And the scandal that came out was there were a number

of things that happened. I think they got hacked. And so their user data was leaked. There was

some investigative reporting about their practices that came out in the media.

And then I think they were sued by a couple of attorney generals in different states.

And the scandal was that a number of the female accounts on Ashley Madison were fake,

that they were actually using these female accounts, these bots, to engage male

subscribers to upgrade to a paid tier. So basically, the idea was you'd sign up as a guy,

you'd be sort of interested, and all of a sudden you'd get a sexy text from what looked

like a female account. But in order to reply or look at their profile,

you had to pay for that next tier.

So when you paid, then you got to interact, but you weren't really interacting with the real

person.

So that was the scandal.

Now, when I recorded the episode, I kind of drew some bigger conclusions about some of the

practices that, you know, the big tech sites use to keep us engaged.

I was thinking about Google.

I was thinking about YouTube.

I was thinking about Facebook.
