Summary

This week’s solo episode finds Dave diving into a conversation about the blessings of not knowing how things are going to turn out. For so many of us, our dreams, relationships or identities take turns we could have never expected, especially when we make big leaps into new spaces. But, in so many cases, it was not knowing how things were going to go that gave us permission to start the journey in the first place. Had insight into how some of our dreams were ultimately destined to die, we would have kept ourselves from fully living to avoid the pain in the journey. Dave shares how not knowing how his adoption journey, departure from Disney, or the end of his marriage was a big blessing in taking steps forward that have been instrumental to his growth. -------- Imma keep some healthy space from social for a bit and am bringing it on email. Feels right, and actually a little more personal, tbh. We’re basically one-way pen pals when you follow this link and drop your email here. —> mrdavehollis.com Dave's book Built Through Courage is available now! Dave was recently confronted with the fact that he was living the life someone else wanted for him. After weathering a highly publicized personal crisis amid the backdrop of an international pandemic and navigating the enjoyable but unpredictable waters of being a single father to four kids, he has been forced to become the captain of his own life and is ready to teach others how to do the same. If you get my email and if you read my blog, I'm a blogger now.

I know.

It's a weird thing to hear in your ears.

0:21.1

It's as weird for me to say the thing out of my mouth.

0:23.8

But in a world where I'm taking this step away from social media for some length of time,

0:29.0

I do still like this idea of staying connected to the community of people who have been alongside

0:35.6

me for so many unbelievable life events over time that my initial idea was, hey, I'll just

0:42.1

create a one-way penpal kind of opportunity where I will write an email and that will facilitate

0:48.9

something in connection.

0:50.8

Then I wrote the first email and it was like 10 pages long.

0:55.0

As much as I know nothing about how email is supposed to work, I showed it to a couple

0:58.8

who do and they said, no, this is not an email.

1:04.2

1:05.8

And I said, well, it's not 2009.

1:08.8

So I'm not sure what I meant to do with this information.

1:12.1

One to never be on the front edge of technology or anything current trend wise, the only obvious

choice then was to create a blog.

And so if you don't already subscribe to the newsletter, to the email, if you're interested

in it, in part because of the way that it has links to a blog that you are certainly welcome
