In this 3-part interview, we speak with three important historical figures in the history of Proposition 8: Laura Compton - Co-founder of Mormons for Marriage, a pro-gay marriage movement within Mormonism. Morris Thurston - A Harvard trained lawyer and opponent to Proposition 8, and Cary Crall - A BYU student whose letter to the editor discussing Prop 8 motives was censored by the Daily Universe All of these guests are active members of the LDS church. Where are you? You're a BYU student, right?

Yes, I am.

Okay, so you're a senior at BYU.

What in the world two years after Prop 8 made you decide that you wanted to write a letter to the editor?

It was probably, it was two things, really, that were the immediate cause of me wanting to write this letter.

One was an editorial printed in BYU's newspaper.

That kind of only peripherally mentioned Proposition 8.

But it was basically the author's point was that because he was following God's counsel and he had done his marriage correctly,

that God was blessing him with children, and although the world might disapprove, that felt to him like a pretty obvious sign of God's approval.

Of his choice to be married when he chose to be married.

And in the situation he was in, he was citing a article that had come out saying that most marriages that occurred later in life were more successful than earlier marriages.

And I mean, there's many times I've read.

It's kind of the irony of my letter being removed for being offensive.

I don't know if I've ever read a more offensive viewpoint newspaper than what happens in the daily universe almost every week.

In my opinion, as to opinions that people express that feel just mean spirited or cocky, I think is a good word.

To the opinions that they're expressing and kind of blatant disregard for the morality of people outside of the BYU community.
