Welcome back to the Huntback Country podcast and day two of elk week.

So all week this week, release an episodes Monday through Friday, all about

elk hunting and answering your questions with different experts or very accomplished

elk hunters, I would say because I know some of these guys are uncomfortable with

that word expert. But anyway, today the topic is how to hunt quiet elk.

So whether it's elk or quiet because it's early in the season, maybe it's really

hot, really dry, maybe it's full moon, maybe it's pressure from predators, it could be all

kinds of things. But how do you adapt strategies when elk or quiet?

Steve, I know you face this a little bit, not like as a conditions, but even there in

Idaho with hunting areas that have been more and more pressured by wolves.

So we'll dive deep clearly into this topic. But what is forethought in your mind for hunting

quiet elk?

Yeah, I mean, definitely calling becomes really tough.

And if you're relying on calling is your only strategy.

And by calling, I mean more so, like just like the hit a ridge line and cover as much

country and throughout location, vehicles every 100 yards.

Yeah, that works great. And it even, you don't necessarily have to change if there's

plenty of elk because you cover enough country eventually.

You're going to find an elk, but you're probably going to walk by a lot or have some really,

really slow days.

So to me, that's where having intimate knowledge of the country really, really helps to be

able to know where elk like to live, to know they're betting and feeding grounds.
