Welcome to the show folks. This is wrestling change my life here we go right when you're around the guys and you're kind of experiencing the relationships and cutting up and all those things, but when you leave the sport and when you're done and when all your you know your your eligibility is white clean, that's when you look back and you'll say man like I obviously like you accomplish some things in the sport, and you want to you know you have these high goals and all these things and you want to accomplish those things, but it's really it's really some of those things that

you'll look back on and you'll say man I I'm so appreciative. We can adore anything and adapt and pivot and change wrestling give us that ability. I would say nothing in life has impacted me or the things wrestling has taught me in terms of self-reflection resilience. Some guys have it some guys don't adversity 100% how to pick myself up and be a man after I feel

and everything that is shaped my life and where I'm at today would not be there without the values and basically the lessons I've learned to the sport of wrestling. For me wrestling saying a life because it allowed me to focus and channel my energy.

We're fortunate if you wrestled because if you wrestled natural talent helps but it's it's 5% of the ingredients it pales in comparison to heart and technique and effort.

It humbled me taught me humility nothing can help you more than wrestling. I think it's the learning to adapt right you learn you learn how to adapt you learn how to solve problems.

Assistant coach at UTC yeah University of Tennessee Chattanooga and I have a UTC hoodie on myself here there's a funny story that goes be goes behind that and while I'm sure we'll get into it but.

Man introduce yourself to the listeners my friend how long you been at the program and and what was your what was your background before you got there.

Yeah yeah so i'm actually i'm originally from Georgia so you know close to this area you know my hometowns probably two and a half hours away from Chattanooga so just south of Atlanta grew up wrestling to McDonald Georgia.

The rest of it compound was pretty pretty well known club in Georgia so I was one of the one of the first guys coming coming through that club.

So that garden web was a southern conference champ actually I was actually the first southern conference champ in our school's history which was something I can always kind of hang my hat on.

True freshman right out the gate swinging yeah true Fred what was it was wrestling in the Georgia state tournament and then a year later what one one the southern conference tournament so pretty cool pretty cool little thing yeah I got a lot better my freshman year.

One you know one so cons you have a little bracket back there it's a old old 2013 bracket so hopefully back our guys can you know get some of these and hopefully get some four time champs in here pretty soon you know I know that's that's kind of the big thank for us is is is hitting the recruiting trail but um but no as far as me man yeah it's true freshman qualify for national tournament.

Um was it was a two time qualifier um yep and uh how did you get the UTC the first time yeah yeah so um you know being in the conference at garden web we we always wrestle UTC I was recruited here a little bit um just when coach Esslinger was coming through and uh he it was kind of the beginning of his tenure here so um he uh you know we just kind of stayed in contact uh you know he was always a great guy to me and um you know I think he appreciates.

I think he appreciated the way I competed and yeah we just kind of stayed in contact and um wrapped the season actually during kind of during the season my senior year I was reaching out with some coaches I just knew I knew a couple things I wanted to at least try coaching um and I knew I wanted to to get my secondary degree so I knew I wanted to try to get my MBA somewhere yeah so that was that was huge for me was was getting to a program where I could have an impact and then also you know help me get that secondary degree.

That I've kind of always wanted so um you know talk to a few coaches but really came down to um you know he he presented it in a great way and I was able to you know train and help some some really bigger guys and and some high level guys like Scotty Boykin and Bryce car who were you know ranked top 15 in the country at 1447 that the season that I came in so it was great for me to have an impact right away on those guys.

guys and then I was able to get my NBA in two years.
