This is David Scales for the Surf Splendor Network, bringing you an episode of Wax On with Ashton Gagins.

Ashton is a writer.

He's the new editor-in-chief of Stab Magazine.

The ever-evolving landscape of surf media is an evergreen topic here on the podcast.

And it's a perennial because just in this last decade, it's evolved so fast in properties that we've loved, like Surfer Magazine, but not just print properties digital too, like Corderoy TV.

They seem to have come and gone with just a real rapid succession.

So the discussion of surf media, the landscape, what it looks like, how it's evolving,

is something that's always relevant.

And it comes up with everybody that I interview on this show, whether they're surfboard

shapers, writers, filmmakers, whatever.

As a writer and a millennial, or maybe he's actually a Gen Xer,

Ashton has a reverence and a passion for both things,

the permanence of writing, and he embraces the immediacy of the modern world of Instagram.

But in both those platforms and really any of the platforms that he's working within,

the focus is always placed squarely on storytelling, which is, I think, where Ashton and my own passions align.

So with his new role at Stab, I was eager to hear about his transitioning, how Stab will evolve

with the ownership shifts that it's gone through recently.

Just for those of you who haven't heard us discuss it on this show, Stab was purchased by Surf Stitch

a couple of years ago. And then one of its original founding partners, Sam McIntosh,

just purchased Stab back last month.
