Episode 184. 184 Oh, it's good to be back everybody. Welcome to the You're Not So Smart Podcast. Our guest in this episode is Doctor of

Behavioral Science, Gleb Sapurski. He's a disaster avoidance expert who has spent more than 20 years

telling people how to de bias themselves. He teaches, speaks, coaches, trains, talks to businesses and non-profits,

consults, all that stuff, based off of his 15 years as a behavioral economist and a

cognitive neuroscientist including seven years as a professor at Ohio State

University all of which he spent exploring cognitive biases.

So this is a return to first principles for the show,

for me, for the whole thing.

This is what I got the whole thing started,

talking about biases, fallacies, and heuristics, but with a real emphasis on cognitive

biases, specifically confirmation bias, which has been sort of the root of the entire exercise.

And I'm excited to talk to Gleb because he is part of the second wave of public outreach about all of this and scientific communication about this part of human reasoning, decision making, and judgments.

The first wave was all about just telling you that this stuff existed, sort of describing

it, categorizing it, text sonifying it.

Now there's a real urge to try to do something about it,

to give you practical advice,

to help you de bias yourself.

That's exactly what he wants to do. He's the author of

Never Trust Your Gut and he's here to talk about his new book, The Bias is Between Us,

for which I wrote the foreword. Because it's a book that's a companion piece to you or not so smart in many

ways and that it tells you how to take what you learned in that book and then de-bias yourself
