that I believe is one of the most important things that you can be doing for your vegetable garden

right now. We're in the middle of April and you might be thinking, well, the most important

thing, Jill, is to talk about planting things. Well, perhaps, but not far behind

that is mulching. Mulsing your vegetable garden is more important than you probably realize.

And I realized myself that I hadn't really talked a whole lot about mulching in a very long time.

It is high time for us to revisit this subject in the podcast, and in the middle of April

is the perfect time to do it.

As I was researching this subject and taking notes, I realized I had way more content than

I like to put in one episode.

So we're actually breaking this up into two. Today we're going to be

talking about why mulch is so important and you may be surprised. You may know a few obvious things like

weeding, but we're going to talk about a few other things as well. We're going to talk about

mulch application tips because you're going to be wanting to do this very soon. And we're also going to be talking

about dealing with previous mulch. Maybe you already have a garden that had mulch on it last year. What do

you do with it? And then we'll also talk a little bit about mulching raised beds and some considerations

when it comes to raised beds and mulching. And then next week we're going to talk about

different types of

mulch that you can use in your garden, the pros and cons of each and what you might want to

consider when you choose the kind of mulch that you're going to add to your garden this year.
