I'm Alice and I'm Brett and this is the prosecutor's legal briefs.

0:34.9

I'm your host, Alice, and I'm joined as always by my re-examined co-host Brett. Always re-examine. You need to have a examined life, Alice, and sometimes

0:45.0

you need an independent person to take an examination of you. And it's always good to get a third

0:50.2

party's view. That's a good point you raise there. You know, words have meaning. When you say

0:54.4

independent, you know, what exactly qualifies as independent, especially you guys probably know what we're

1:01.1

talking about? We covered the Ellen Greenberg case many years ago on our other podcast, the prosecutors.

1:08.4

And since that time, there has been a lot of back and forth in the courts.

1:12.8

You may have remembered that Ellen died from dozens of stab wounds to her body.

1:18.2

And the question is whether she inflicted them on herself or if someone else inflicted them

1:42.2

We've done updates on them. Ellen's parents and the city settled outside of court for a re-examination, an independent

1:50.6

examination of the cause of death. And we now have the, it's not even the second report,

1:58.7

third, fourth, fifth report of Ellen's cause of death.

2:04.7

And spoiler alert, it's probably not surprising, given that this reexamination was done by Philadelphia,

2:11.9

the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office, that they have reaffirmed that this was a suicide. And so we're going to talk a little bit about

2:19.3

the report, what it means, what's next, all that good stuff. The first thing I want to say about this

2:24.6

before we even get into it, because I think you have to address the elephant in the room, which we've

2:27.9

already identified, and that's that this reexamination of the evidence was conducted by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office.

2:36.5

The current medical examiner, who is not the same medical examiner, who originally considered this case.
