Summary

Themes: Technology, Social Media, Presence, Connection   Summary:  Ever feel powerless to the powers of your phone and technology? I certainly have, and over the past few months, my relationship with tech has left me feeling more depleted and anxious than ever. So much so that I recently took my first break from Instagram in seven years! This much needed space allowed me to discover how to relate to my phone and social media on my own terms, and this journey led me to discovering the Light Phone. I was fascinated by this genius idea and the company behind it creating products "designed to be used as little as possible." Say what?! Joining me today is the Light Phone co-founder Kaiwei Tang. After meeting his business partner, artist Joe Hollier, at in a Google experimental program in 2014, this product designer helped create a smartphone alternative that promotes peace of mind and intentional use. Whether you need a break from your smartphone for the weekend or you're ready to ditch it for good, the Light Phone changes how you experience your time.   Discover: How tech companies profit from our time, attention and data and how The Light Phone is disrupting this industry The effects of constant digital stimulation and the profound benefits users have experienced from "going light" How to regain control in your relationship with your smartphone The ways we distract and numb ourselves with technology and how the Light Phone is helping people reconnect with themselves, others and the present moment   Links: The Light Phone Instagram: @thelightphone   Sponsors: Organifi | Use code CREATETHELOVE for 20% off all products at organifi.com/createthelove House of Wise Co. | Use code CREATETHELOVEBOGO to get one free box of gummies when you buy one box at houseofwise.co Create the Love Cards | Use code CTLCARDS15 for 15% off at createthelove.com/cards Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Like I needed to consume more.

0:38.1

And in a lot of ways, it felt like when I would overeat or, you know, want to drink too much.

0:43.8

It was like this insatiable need to just get more information and participate in the drama of what was going on.

0:52.1

And this is going to sound kind of weird, but that's fine.

0:55.8

It felt like when I was looking at my phone, that it was literally pulling my face out of my

body, like pulling me out. And, you know, it was like I was being infiltrated or exploited.

1:08.0

It was a really weird feeling. And to be honest with you, that wasn't enough

to alarm me. Even though I had that feeling, it was like, oh, well, I guess I should just keep

consuming this stuff. It was almost like I needed more. And it wasn't until the last three months

that I really experienced a lot more anxiety in my relationship to technology

1:29.5

and I was starting to really assess like how does this affect my health? How do I take

1:35.5

charge of this relationship? Because right now I don't actually feel like I'm in control of it.

And you might have noticed that I took a couple weeks off Instagram

where I didn't post at all for the first time in seven years.

1:50.2

I took two weeks off completely where I just wanted my page to sit vacant
