The Roaring 20s. What an incredible decade in history. This era was known for many things.

For instance, it was a popular time for jazz music, speak-easies, and flappers. Babe Ruth started

playing for the Yankees, and in October of

1921, the World Series was broadcast on radio for the very first time. The New York Giants

defeated the Yankees five games to three. In 1925, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote and published the Great

Gatsby. Salvador Dali and Marcel

Duchamp were redefining the art scene with surrealist paintings and Dadaism.

And you also have things like the fact that the year 1920 itself was the first year in history

in which women were allowed to vote in the United States of America.

I could go on and on about amazing things that occurred in the 20s,

but like with any span of time, there are moments that are riddled with darkness.

The 20s were also the decade in which, in 1925,

40,000 KKK members marched onto Washington, D.C., filling Pennsylvania Avenue with white hoods and hatred.

In Chicago, mobsters took part in the single bloodiest incident in a decade-long turf war between rival mobs, trying to control the bootlegging trade, and finally, at the

tail end of the year, the stock market crashed, bringing on the Great Depression.

So while this decade had the highest of highs, there were most certainly low lows.

Back in those days, things like serial killings were unheard of, or at least they didn't have a name for it yet.

It seemed to be more of a time of organized crime.

But just because it didn't have a name, doesn't mean it did not exist.
