Summary

Jim and Jamie Sheils make a sobering, but important, observation -- we only have 18 summers to spend with our children before they become adults and move off to start their own lives. Jesse chats with Jim and Jamie about how we can spend more time with our children, be more present in our relationships, and manage the most precious and scarce resource of them all: time.

Jim and Jamie are the parents of four children, and help coach other families to develop tighter bonds and enjoy more meaningful time with each other.

professionals that just, they just can't seem to strike that balance.

And y'all know I don't really like the word or the phrase work life balance, but this

idea of integration of work and the rest of your life, work and family.

1:06.9

And they just have this fantastic, simple approach that is grounded in the universal idea,

1:14.2

and that's the one we're all familiar with here, of finite resources.

1:17.8

You only have so much time with these kiddos, with this family of yours, before things

1:25.1

kind of change, and they're off.

1:27.7

So you know, hopefully they're bigger and better things, but things will change, and that

1:32.6

time you have with your kids or with a niece or nephew, it is finite.

1:38.0

So as with any valuable finite resource, we must just be absolutely intentional about how

1:47.2

we use it, how we go about it.

1:49.9

And that's where Jim and Jamie Shields come in.

1:52.1

They have three principles that you can adopt immediately in some form or fashion to really
