In this episode, I want to talk to you about biblical convictions for expositional preaching.

2 Timothy chapter four verse two commands commissions charges the preacher to preach the word I'm always fascinated with that

exhortation with that imperative because there Paul does not just tell Timothy

that he must preach. He also tells him what he must preach. We're not just called to get up

and talk about whatever suits our fancy. We are heralds who have been entrusted with a message and we do not

have authorial editorial authority over the content of that message we are

charged to preach the word in fact when I am asked why exposition matters why is exposition important or what difference does

exposition make my um front pocket answer is simply that 2 Timothy chapter 4 verses 1 and 2

come right after 2 Timothy chapter 3 verses 6 and 7 since the Bible is

breathed out by God the duty of the preacher the commission of the preacher the mandate

on the preacher is to preach the word. Really, when you get beyond the various styles

and elements of preaching, the heart of the matter is how a person preaches inevitably betrays

what he believes about the Bible. How one preaches, reveals, betrays what he believes about the Bible.

How one preaches, reveals, betrays, exposes what one truly thinks about the Bible.

And so really, if you're going to be a faithful Bible expositor, one who takes the word of God and simply explains it and exhorts the people to live out the life of the teachings of our faith.

You have to have very clear convictions about what you believe about the Bible.
