Hey everyone, it's Susan Coffin and you are listening to Attitude Magazine's ADHD experts audio.

Today's guest speaker is Dr Amy Margolis of Columbia University and she will be talking about a really fascinating topic

a very commonly overlooked and poorly understood learning disability that's

called non-verbal learning disability or NDLD. It's frequently seen in children with ADHD and

it's frequently confused with ADHD. As a result children with this disorder are

oftentimes misdiagnosed and you have missed opportunities for intervention early on.

And VLD is marked by problems with visual and spatial abilities along with other difficulties,

social interactions, sometimes mass skills,

and she'll tell us a lot more about the social

and academic challenges of NBLD.

Other topics that she'll address

will be how to distinguish the symptoms of NBLD

from those of ADHD, why early diagnosis is important, why clinicians

misdiagnose NBLD, signs that parents should look for, how it affects children in the

classroom for those of you who might be teachers who are

listening in some strategies that you can use in the classroom and some strategies that

parents can use so should be a great session we're looking forward to it and we're

really fortunate to have Amy Margulis with us today.
