Summary

Welcome to Cult-vember babes. Imagine, a utopian future, where everyone was equal. Same house, same furnishings, same 4 hour workday, 4 day work week, 8 month work year, and even the same salary? Cult leader Arthur Bell attempted to bring the idea to fruition through a community he created known as ‘Mankind United.’ Listen in on the bizarre origins and ultimate failure, stay tuned through the end to hear a shocking cult connection.

Hello and welcome back to Cult Leader. I'm your Cult Leader Spencer Henry and if you're listening to this, it means you survived Halloween.

0:46.0

Good job. You did it. You're not going to end up on a Cult Leader episode. First of all, let's talk about movies. I watched a movie last night and it is called The Nighthouse or Nighthouse.

0:57.0

It was so good. Thank you to the Cult Babe that recommended it on Twitter. It's a thriller with a twist, which if you know anything about me, you know that's my favorite. That's the way to my heart. So if you have any recommendations or if you've seen a good movie with a twist lately, please comment it. I love them.

1:14.0

I think skeleton keys got to be one of my favorite movies with a twist. For Halloween, I am Wesley from The Princess Bride or was by the time this goes out because people have told me before I look like him. So I was like, you know, I'm going to run with that. It was the first costume costume that I've actually purchased in a long time.

Normally, every year, I'm just throwing something together. Last year, I was a ghost. I just put a sheet on. So this was maximum effort on my end. It feels a little weird having Halloween on a Sunday. In my opinion, I think Halloween should be the last Saturday of the month in October every year. I just think that's what would make sense. That's what I would like. I don't know. Or maybe even a Friday. People love Fridays. Fridays are the best. I love Mondays because guess what? We get to spend Mondays together.

2:03.0

But just Halloween-wise, I always wish it was on the Saturday. The month of October felt very long and short at the same time. I can't believe I went the entire month without barely decorating at all. No pumpkin carving. Nothing. I feel like I was like the Grinch of Halloween this year.

2:18.0

But I wasn't anti. I just, there was so much going on. I didn't get around to it. I could not muster up the strength to pull my skeletons out of the closet and put them out. Sorry, guys. There's always December. We can always pull out the skeletons for December. They have their Santa hats. Just October felt long, though, in a lot of ways to it.

2:36.0

I felt very like a draining month to me. I don't know about you guys. A lot of people that I've talked to this year felt like October was an energy suck. Happy to be moving forward. Let's finish out this year. Okay. I'm done with 2021. I've seen enough. Better than 2020. For sure. But I'm over it. Let's get to the holidays. I like the holidays. I like getting to see family and friends and dress up. So that's where my mind is now moving into.

3:05.0

We're starting the month now. It's November 1st. Let's all just have a good month. I'm manifesting that for all of us. I think we need it. I think we need like a calm November and December just to finish out the year. Just let us finish. It's kind of like senior year. Like, okay. We've done everything. Just let us finish. But we're here November. Cult. Vemper. So I thought I'd kick us off with the good old cult story today. And I'm excited.

3:31.0

We haven't really done a cult in a while, have we? I can't remember. I can't keep up. We're doing so many things. I have a few cults actually planned for upcoming episodes. And I'm really excited because, well, this is cult later. It if you're new here, and this is your first time listening, guess what?

3:50.0

We talk about cults, of course, but we talk about a whole bunch of other stuff on here. But today is a cult. And you'll see more cults before the end of the year. I first actually read about this story on one of those dumb like cults that are crazy list. And just the brief description of it had me craving more. I'm like, okay, what's up with this?

4:10.0

I need to know more about this. And I'll tell you why later on. But it's a really interesting story because at first you get it. You can see why this cult was started. And you're almost like, okay, yeah, I fully understand the intention behind this.

4:24.0

But then of course it gets darker and you start seeing these undertones of scamming and scheming. Some of the details of today's story though are just absurd. And well, very culty. So it's perfect.

4:37.0

The story primarily takes place in the 30s, which I already know I know people don't always love older cases, which I'll never understand because I love learning the history of things. And especially when it comes to cults. But I'm like, a cult in the 30s just FYI is the same thing as a cult. If it happened today, it's just a different decade.

4:57.0

It hasn't changed. We know full on. There's still cults going strong today. That's the thing about cults. They've been around forever. They always will. Same thing goes for moida.

5:07.0

If a moida happened in 1806, it's the same thing as a moida happened in today. That's the thing about death. It's happened forever always will. All die, you'll die. We're all going to die.

5:17.0

Who would want to live forever? No, thanks. Whenever I get upset about something or I'm embarrassed or I'm having a bad day, I'm like, wait a second. I'm going to be dead one day. Who cares?

5:26.0

And that is your motivational Monday quote from your cult leader. I was so serious. You guys know I like I do the magic. I've read the secret. I'm big on manifesting and gratitude.

5:40.0

It's shocking, honestly, that I haven't joined a cult or started my, well, you know, I was kind of a cult. I was laying in bed this morning and I was just tired. I was not feeling the day yet.

5:53.0

I was like, I cannot get up right now. I cannot do this. And so I googled the five minute positive morning meditation to like listen to while I was laying in bed while I was waking up. And I accidentally chose like a very aggressive one, I think, because they were, it was like a husband and wife duo or something like yelling at each other.

6:13.0

You are going to make this a good day. And I'm like, oh my god. Okay, what fuck I will. I mean, I guess it worked. I feel like I'm in a pretty good mood now. Maybe it was just the reinforcement I needed. Maybe that was the kick in the ass. I'm the same way with working out. Like I need to be yelled at. Please yell at me. Please tell me I'm an idiot. And I need to work harder. Because that's the only way you're getting through to me.
