Hello and welcome back to Cult Leader. I'm your Cult Leader, Spencer Henry, and it's Friday, and I'm in love with you and you and the Kier all of you.

0:49.0

This is a little leader where I read the stories that you sent to me. Hey, if you have a story you would like to share on an upcoming little leader, just send that on over to Spencer at Cult Leader.com.

And you know what to do from there? You know at this point. What a week. I... Monday. So it's Monday night. I upload Cult Leader. Thank God. Upload it. And it was a long day so I had post-mated Chipotle.

1:15.0

I really wanted to Diet Coke but you can't postmates like fountain drinks or whatever. So I get a bottle of Sprite that they had. That was like the only options.

1:25.0

And I'm like, you know what? I haven't had a Sprite in a while. I ended up being disastrous. I spilt the Sprite on my keyboard of my MacBook. It wasn't even a lot of liquid.

1:35.0

So I was truly surprised when it started being kind of weird and I was like, uh-oh. I cleaned it as well as I could, did every hack and online trick that you can think of. Left it upside down overnight.

1:46.0

And the next morning I was grabbing my computer to go to the coffee shop that I go to sometimes and get some writing done. Of course the computer is dead, will not turn on.

1:57.0

So I take it to a repair place. They told me a couple days later that it was dead but they were like, we have to keep your computer for a couple days. And I said, hey, I can't not have a computer.

2:06.0

So I went to the Apple store, buy another one. And while I'm there, when you go to the Apple store or something, they'll be like, what brought you in today?

2:15.0

What are you exactly looking for in a computer? And it's like, listen, I'm looking for one that turns on and then I can press buttons.

2:21.0

They kept asking what I do for work and I was like, you know, like, oh, just like, you know, things I can just mainly need it for writing, blah, blah, blah.

2:30.0

They were like, okay, well, what are you writing? Like, they were playing 20 questions with me. I told them obviously about cold later. But they were like, oh, that's cool. That's like your main gig. I'm like, yeah, that's it. That's what she does. Murder, she wrote.

2:40.0

They were like, oh, that's cool. That's awesome. And I was like, you know what? It is really awesome. I do feel so lucky every day that this is my job getting to talk to you guys. And some of you have been here now for years, which is so wild to me.

2:53.0

I feel like we've all just grown together into a really cool cult. And I love it. Let's see. What else is going on this week? Oh, you know what?

3:01.0

I told you guys a few weeks or a few months ago about this book. It's called The Silent Patient, which even up to two days ago, I think somebody tagged me in their stories that they were reading it. And it makes me so happy because it is such a good book. Like 10 out of 10, it is in my top five probably.

3:21.0

I'll say that it's in my top five books of all time. Well, I finally got my hands on a copy of the author Alex Michaelides second book called The Maidens. So I'm starting that this weekend. And I'm so excited because everybody is raving about it. And it's getting really good review.

3:38.0

So I'll let you know what I think. But if it's even half as good as The Silent Patient, I will be thrilled. We know I love a twist. I feel like I'm just the dad who repeats the same thing over and over again. But it's true. I love anything with a twist. I like suspense for for somebody who has anxiety the way that I have anxiety. The fact that I love suspenseful thrillers is really I guess surprising. Maybe I find comfort in the chaos.

4:04.0

But let's move into some emails. Shall we? The well actually wait, can we talk really quick about the John Wayne Gacy situation? Because I feel like that's pretty big news that happened last week. I meant to mention something about it on last week's little later. But there was a victim who had previously been unidentified.

4:26.0

Like almost 40 years later, he has finally been identified as Francis Wayne Alexander. One of the victims killed by the infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy. I found a little right up on it on CNN. And it says for decades their identity was a mystery. But through the work of a nonprofit group called the DNA, Doe Project, DDP and police in the Chicago area, genetic genealogy helped solve the case.

4:53.0

According to the group's website, a tooth from the victim was sent to a lab in California for DNA extraction. A sample of the DNA was then sent to a lab in Alabama for sequencing.

5:04.0

The data file went to a genetics investigations company in Texas that then uploaded the information to GED match DNA matches in the second cousin range were found enabling the Doe Projects team of volunteer genetic genealogists to construct family trees and identify Francis Wayne Alexander as a candidate for the DNA.
