In this episode, I want to talk to you about collecting tools for biblical preaching.

So in this episode, we want to talk about specifically what tools you need in order to prepare and preach biblical sermons. But we'll talk about that soon, God willing. That's the

subject that's on my mind. And I'd love to start the discussion about what are the helpful tools a preacher needs to have in his tool chest

in order to be equipped to regularly prepare and preach biblical sermons.

But this episode is not so much about the what as it is about the how.

How do you go about collecting the tools needed for biblical preaching?

Before we get there, though, let me talk about the why.

And I want to talk about the why in an introductory way just by messing around a little bit with the title of this episode of the podcast, collecting tools for biblical preaching.

Let me just start at the end of that title.

The advice I want to give you in this episode is concerned with not merely building a library

or collecting books.

It's concerned about the matter of preaching.

Sermons do not grow on trees.

Preaching is hard work.

I have a friend who is a theological professor. He teaches systematic

theology and historical theology, and he says, I'm not interested in any theology that I cannot preach.

I like that statement. It stays on my mind. I'm not interested in anything, really,

that's not going to help me communicate the word of God better. This is a life commitment to

getting the text right and getting the truth across.
