Summary

Did you know that almost all Mysore sandalwood used in perfumery today is actually grown in Australia? Or that Australia has its own native sandalwood species—one that smells completely different from its creamy Indian counterpart? Goldfield & Banks Founder Dimitri Weber did. This is why he built a luxury fragrance brand entirely dedicated to showcasing Australia's rich native botanicals. Today I chat with the French-Belgian founder all about his love affair with Australian botanicals, his role in shaping the identity of modern Australian perfumery, and of course, the flora, fruits, and fragrances that pulled him...down undaaaa.

Welcome to the perfume room. My send to the day today is Harlem Candleco's newest launch,

0:16.1

Ertha, which, as you might be surmising, is inspired by none other than singer, dancer, actress,

0:21.3

and all-around icon, the late Eartha Kit.

0:24.6

Created by perfumer, Catherine Selig, what makes Eartha so special is that Terry Johnson,

0:29.2

the founder of Harlem Campbellco, created it in tandem with Eartha's daughter, Kit Shapiro.

0:34.4

It's meant to capture the audacity, elegance, and allure of Eartha from the point of

0:38.9

view of the person who knew her best. This scent has such a unique signature. There's really

0:43.8

nothing else quite like it in my collection. It's green. It's fresh, a little bit dewy, so mossy, and

0:49.5

softly sweet. I smell a sweet petulie. It's almost like a candied petulie. Then there's some fresh

0:55.7

pepper, a feeling of verdant florals. And I'm not sure if it's the saffron that's doing this,

1:01.6

but there's something in here that not only adds this sort of like subtle sweetness

1:06.1

throughout, but almost like a viscous kind of texture, almost like a sort of like fruity milk sap.

1:12.3

You know what? As I'm saying this and smelling it, I'm like, oh, this is absolutely a sheep.

1:17.3

You know what I think it even kind of like slipped through my mind that this was a sheep?

1:20.3

It has such like a modern, fresh, easy-to-wear feeling, especially in the opening.

1:25.4

But by the time you reach that dry down, you get that

1:27.5

kind of signature, bold, powdery, ambery, mossy sheep style. This is easily one of my

1:36.0

2025 favorites so far. I love it. Before we dive into this week's episode, a quick thank you to

1:43.8

this month's sponsor, Goldfield and Banks.

1:47.2

Goldfield and Banks is a luxury fragrance brand that showcases Australia's native botanicals with a touch of French flair.

1:54.6

You know I'm a fan of Goldfield and Banks, Silky Woods Elixir, and I am so excited to share their latest launch and the first expansion

2:02.5

of their Pacific Rock Mouse collection, Pacific Rock Flower.
