Today I thought I'd talk about what to do when you're wronged. I know none of you ever have an opportunity to apply this right.

But Thomas Watson, one of my favorite quotes, is he said rather be wronged than do wrong.

And that's really the truth because we all have enough to confess, enough things to put right, correct?

And so it's better to be wronged because then you can just extend forgiveness and move on.

Obviously, if you have wronged someone, you have to put it right as far as it is possible with you.

And that means an honest apology. And this is just basic Christian behavior.

That's what we teach our children. We confess our sin to God. We seek our brothers forgiveness or sisters.

And even if they refuse to extend forgiveness, you know, you've done your part under the Lord and you can move on with a clear conscience.

But if they have wronged you and haven't sought your forgiveness, you just can't continue on to be burdened with their sin.

Even if they robbed you or hurt you or lied about you, why should you be miserable when your own conscience is clear?

I know it's hard sometimes to dislodge this hurt feeling, but we can do it.

If we don't do it, if we don't dislodge the hurt, then bitterness is going to fill our hearts up.

We store up in our heart the sins of other people. It's never going to bear a sweet fruit. It's a bitter fruit.

Hebrews 12, 15 says, lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble and by this many become defiled.

When you are bitter, it's just a matter of time before this fruit is going to spring up.

And it's going to do a lot of damage. It's like that really nasty root in your garden.

It's much better to keep it clear. Keep it clear. Don't let bitterness take root in your heart.

Instead, Hebrews 12, 14, follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see the Lord.

Peace with all men as far as it's possible with you.
