I want to have an intellectual discussion which you have to have during and after and before emergencies.

0:12.5

So that you know as a public and as the government, what your government is allowed to do and what they're not allowed to do.

0:19.5

It's a very insidious disease and it creates a situation where there's absolutely no predicting what will stop it.

0:29.5

And how far will go before it gets stopped on its own board?

0:36.5

Hello and welcome to Best Case Worcest case. This is Jim Clemente, retired FBI profiler former New York City prosecutor and writer producer of CBS's Criminal Minds. And with me today is...

0:45.5

Hi everybody, it's Francie Hakes, former state and federal prosecutor Jim. We are separated by distance and disease.

0:53.5

Yeah, it's a very strange time that we find ourselves in and very dangerous. My heart goes out to all the families who've already been affected by this COVID-19 and all the families that are yet to be affected by it because this is just destroying people.

1:12.0

Luckily not everybody gets sick but a lot of people do and I'm just tearing you know stories and they're not good.

1:20.5

No, it's a scary time Jim and I think one of the things we wanted to talk about today you and I after we had a discussion was you know this is a bit of a worst case scenario.

1:30.5

We've never seen anything like this in our lifetimes.

1:33.5

Francie, can we just rephrase that? This is the worst case scenario we've ever lived through and my father is 90. It's the worst case scenario he's ever lived through.

1:43.5

It's crazy. It's a crazy thing and the reason we wanted to have a discussion about this worst case scenario today was because we are a show ultimately about crime and law, law and crime.

1:55.5

And there's a big intersection here Jim going on with that, especially with the virus and it's not just this country of course it's every country.

2:04.5

Many countries all over the world are afflicted with this most countries all over the world are afflicted with this virus and they're taking various steps.

2:12.5

So what I thought you and I should do today is discuss some of those steps.

2:16.5

Sure and I think the basic step I do believe that the government felt it was prudent in order to help our health care workers have enough equipment to do their job and to be protected that they put out this thing that masks are not a protection.

2:30.5

It's a complete and blatant utter lie. There's no way that's true. I went through a bone marrow transplant. I had to wear a mask every day because it saved my life.

2:40.5

So did the people who came into my room. They had to wear a mask to save my life. The mask works in two directions. One, if you have anything in you, it prevents it from getting out to others.

2:51.5

So you're protecting others by wearing it and I'm talking about any mask. Anything that you put a cloth in front of your face, anything it works better than trying to cover your mouth with your hand or your elbow when you sneeze.

3:02.5

Absolutely not sufficient. You have to have a mask that covers up to between your eyes over the bridge of your nose all the way down under your chin and whether that's something you tie on or a t-shirt you tie on around the back of your head.

3:15.5

Whatever it is, I don't care how ass and eye and it looks. You need to do it to protect other people. Also, it helps protect you because if somebody else sneezes, if somebody else coughs, if that virus is potentially aerosolized and it's in the air and microscopic droplets, even for minutes, and you walk right into it, into a cloud of it, it will temporarily prevent it from getting in your eyes and your mouth in your face.

3:41.5

And add another thing to that and he kind of face shield over your eyes glasses sunglasses, whatever plastic work shield, I don't know those things will help so do them do them yourself, you don't need to buy the things or take things away from medical professionals make them in your own home be inventive arts and crafts can actually save lives. Let's do that as a basic thing.
