Well, my friend Bill Walton died yesterday of cancer.

I did not know he had it, and I am shocked and so sad.

Bill was such a life for us.

It's hard to believe he's gone.

Bill had been flat on his back for almost five years,

almost to the point of being suicidal,

but he was saved by a back surgeon.

Now, the last time I saw Bill was at a deaden company show at City Field,

where the Mets play, and Bill noticed that I would get up and dance for about 10 minutes and then

sit down for a few minutes, then get back up and dance for about 10 minutes, then sit down again,

and on and on. And Bill asked me what was going on, and I said, I'd had this back problem for about

35 years, and then I'd gotten surgery about 30 years ago, but it didn't do me any good. And Bill

said, you know, back surgery has changed in the last 30 years. So he said he'd find me the best back

surgeon in New York. And he did. And now I can

get up at a dead show and dance all night. Bill did that for me. He did. God bless Bill Walton,
