Import Cinema Club. And today, we're talking about one of the most acclaimed Hong Kong movie directors out

there. And that's Anne Hoy. The director of such films as boat people, a simple life, Song of an Exile.

Wait, are these any martial arts or John Wu-style gunplay films?

Well, there might be.

There is a film called A-Com, which features such luminaries as Michelle Yeo and Sam O'Hung.

She's done a variety of horror and genre films.

But Anne Hoy is somebody who, I would say, is best known to serious fans of Hong Kong cinema.

Because her best films are not the genre films.

No.

Her best films are the Art House films.

She came out of the Hong Kong New Wave with people like Choi Hark.

So her films in that period were like angry and they were aggressive in a way that I associate

directly with Hong Kong cinema.

Now, I was only marginally familiar with her before this week.

So this is definitely one of those weeks where I feel like I'm in the process of learning.

Both of us.

And in fact, her films are still quite hard to find.

I was very shocked when I started looking for even some of her most famous films like

Song of the Exile and learning that it's only available on YouTube in like a VHS rip.

And there's been no DVD and no Blu-ray.

Doing a little bit more research, it seems that that's because she never really worked on
