Coming up on a House of Lords only day, a minister says Israeli students are to be banned from an elite British military

college in a diplomatic gesture over Gaza. We are doing everything we can to try and persuade

the government of Israel to change cause. This is part of that. Also, are the authorities

ineffectual in the face of big-time waste crime and fly-tipping.

And as Donald Trump visits the King, peers are told that the new ambassador in Washington

But first, a minister has told peers that the government's decision to bar Israelis from an elite British military college is sad, but a necessary lever to put pressure on Israel's government over its actions in Gaza.

From next year, Israeli students will be refused entry to the Royal College of Defence Studies. In the Lords, a former Labour MP, now a non-party

peer, Lord Walney, said the government's policy towards Israel so far had been marked by destructive

tokenism. Even so, this gesture seems particularly depressing and particularly likely to strike

at the relationship between our countries,

which is, I hope she will accept, is vital for our long-term security.

And he wondered if the same criteria were being applied to countries like Qatar or China.

The Minister, Lady Chapman, said there were no set criteria

and this was an unusual situation.

But she pointed to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza

and the current push by the Israeli defence forces, the IDF,

to occupy Gaza City.
