But we talked about Jeff and Larissa's Mormon upbringing in Utah and Larissa's was particularly

noteworthy in the Mormon Stories library because she as of Japanese American descent. Her great-grandparents

came here from Japan and we talked about growing up as a biracial Japanese American in Utah county

in the past couple decades. But we talked about them finding each other getting married. Jeff

of course served a mission. Larissa followed the Mormon path in many ways but you know that was

kind of part one and then part two has been about their marriage and specifically how they ultimately

became progressive Mormons. Jeff going to med school and Jeff and Larissa having fertility

problems and then adopting three biracial children who are black and what that was like raising

black children as a biracial couple in the Mormon Church and what it led to was Larissa becoming

more and more, both of them becoming more and more sympathetic to causes around race. But also

one of the again really valuable parts of part two was Larissa talking about her feminist awakening

both before and after her marriage. And as Jeff also became sympathetic to many of these progressive

social causes he was in a bishopric for seven years and then in a steak high council. So you see this

couple in Tennessee becoming more and more socially progressive and religiously progressive.

And we ended part two of yesterday's episode with them kind of teetering in their membership during

COVID trying to decide how they're going to remain Mormon and starting to feel like they still

believed in the church ish but you know was were the Mormon people their people as they experienced

many Mormons around them opposing like the black lives matter movement or expressing concern about
