Join us for Part 2 of our 2-part interview with pilot Greg Gerritsen

Join us for Part 2 of our 2-part interview with pilot Greg Gerritsen - grandson of the late and much believed Mormon or LDS Church apostle Joseph B. Wirthlin. In this series, Greg shares with us more of his own journey in the Church including:

  • Greg's mission experiences, many made more difficult by knowledge of his relationship with Elder Wirthlin
  • What Greg learned at Weber that began affecting his testimony
  • How often General Authorities miss out on family activities and events in service to the Church
  • How the Church deals with aging apostles once they begin to lose lucidity
  • How Greg lost his LDS testimony in spite of descending from the Mormon "elite," and what led him to want to tell his story.

Also, Greg shares his opinion on whether his grandfather actually "saw" Jesus Christ as an LDS apostle. We hope you enjoy!!!

Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of Mormon Stories podcast. I'm your host John

0:04.4

DeLin. It's September 8th, 2022 and we are here in part two of our interview with Greg

0:12.0

Gertzinn. Hey Greg. Hey. Welcome back to part two. Thank you. For those who don't know,

0:17.6

we just finished almost three hours with Greg talking about what it was like to grow up as the

0:22.2

grandson of a Mormon apostle, Joseph E. Wurthlin. Greg is the grandson of Joseph E. Wurthlin and it

0:29.2

was amazing three hours. If you haven't watched it, pause this episode, go back, watch the first

0:34.8

three hours. So many amazing heartfelt stories. I could just say that Joseph E. Wurthlin was always

0:40.4

always already pretty high on my list of apostles because of what I knew about him. He's kind of

0:44.9

jumping to amongst the top of maybe some of my favorite Mormon apostles of all time. I don't know

0:50.6

if some of you would think that that's a low bar, but I'm really liking what I'm here. And so if you

0:54.1

want to be inspired, I don't care if you're a Christian and atheist, a Mormon, ex-Mormon, I think

0:59.6

you'll be inspired by what we just learned about Joseph E. Wurthlin as a Mormon apostle. So go check

1:05.4

it out. What we're going to be talking about now is Greg's life starting kind of with his Mormon

1:11.1

mission and how the grand child of a Mormon apostle can start to have a faith crisis and even

1:16.8

potentially question and or lose their faith and what that's like. That's going to be a major theme

1:22.7

for today for part two. And we're also going to do as much of we can of a Q&A because I've got a

1:28.5

bunch of other questions. But a lot of the questions that I wanted to ask, we've kind of covered a lot

1:33.3

of them. So that's why I think part one is really important. We weaved and integrated them into

1:38.7

the discussion instead of like saving them all to the end. But anyway, welcome back, Greg. Thanks

1:44.1

so much for being willing to do this. Well, thank you, and thanks for having me. Yeah. I was telling you

1:49.6

at the break that I think you're believing Mormon family, if they aren't, they should be very proud

1:56.7

and honored of this interview because even though it might be views and active disloyalty,
