This is the last, the seventh part of a seven part series on

budgeting with a partner. We're going to talk about Rule 3 because it's a little

tricky. Why NAB and all its wisdom,

does not let you get away with just willy-nilly

overspending on categories.

We make you pay for it, we make you pay it back.

So you have all your category balances just flush with money.

And then there's some overspending. And that naturally has to be paid for somewhere.

You can have it just deducted from next month's available. I'm not a huge...

We're working on changing that slightly because it can cause problems, constantly

deferring repayment to the next month.

But the money has to come from somewhere and what we really want you to do is adjust and roll

with the punches.

Make sure that you're changing your allocation

as you gather new information.

What's tricky when you're budgeting with a spouse

is sometimes one person kind of sends a category into a nose dive.

The best approach when you're about to harpoon a category is to discuss it prior.
