Isaiah chapter 54 verse 5. For your maker is your husband. The Lord of hosts is his name.

And the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. The God of the whole earth he is called. This is an amazing verse,

particularly when you kind of take it from the back and work your way back up. So the very last

phrase says, the God of the whole earth he is called. So we're talking about the God of the whole

earth. And the phrase right before that

says, he is your redeemer. He's the one who redeems you, who makes it possible for you to be

reconciled to him. So we know the storyline in the Bible that we have all sinned against the God of the

And you keep going back up. The Lord of hosts is his name. So we're talking about the Lord of

hosts. So now we've got this picture of the God of the whole earth, the Lord of hosts.

And then the very first phrase, for your maker is your husband. And so we have this

imagery. God uses it of his people in the Old Testament. He calls himself their husband. He calls them

his bride. The same thing in the New Testament. We're called the bride of Christ when we trust in Jesus.
