| 0:00.0 | Welcome to Job with Julie. I'm really thrilled about today's coffee conversation because I have two great guests with me. |
| 0:07.0 | The first one is John Stone Street and you are the president of the Colson Center. |
| 0:12.0 | So you are sort of the successor of Chuck Colson. |
| 0:15.0 | That is such a tough thing to say. No, there's no way. Please don't say that. |
| 0:19.0 | I said it. Hey, it's on your bio. |
| 0:20.0 | It's now there. Successor to Chuck Colson will never be on the bio. No, there's no way. Please don't say that. It's impossible. I said it. Hey, it's on your bio. It's now there. No, the successor to Chuck Holson will never be on the bio. No, there's nobody that can follow him. But yeah, the Colson Center kind of, uh, uh, stewards that part of Chuck's legacy that had to do with worldview and cultures. He had kind of the whole prison and prison ministry side of things. And then he also had that cultural engagement side of things. |
| 0:39.0 | And they were very much related in Chuck's life and story. |
| 0:42.3 | But when he passed away, the Colston Center kind of manages and stewards that part of the legacy |
| 0:48.5 | that has to do with worldview and culture and getting Christians involved in the world around them. |
| 0:52.9 | Yeah, well, that's an important job. |
| 1:16.1 | And you're based here in Colorado Springs. Based here in Colorado Springs. It's crazy that I've never met you before. So I'm hoping this isn't the last time we have you on January of Julie. Well, good. Yeah, we have a lot of intersection with what we're doing. Absolutely. So you are also an author of several books. You're the host of Breakpoint. and we're going to be talking about your latest book, I think, which is just coming out, a practical guide to culture. |
| 1:20.5 | And the subtitle is helping the next generation navigate today's world. |
| 1:26.6 | And to help us in that conversation, John, I brought a piece of the next generation with me. |
| 1:45.0 | I think he's probably your favorite guest. He is my favorite guest. I'm sorry. It doesn't matter who else would be on the show. They would be secondary because I have with me today my son Michael. Michael Slattery, welcome to Java with Julie. Thanks for having me. But you can't call her Julie. You have to call her mom. That's right. Yes. Michael is just finished his sophomore year in college at Grove City College. And so he is going to keep us |
| 1:51.3 | honest, John. I mean, we can talk as old people like we see all these changes in culture. |
| 1:55.7 | Yeah, like get off my lawn. Yeah. That sort of stuff. Yeah. And he'll keep us straight. |
| 1:59.5 | He will. He'll be like, here's what kids are really talking about. So thanks for joining me for this conversation. And I'm going to tell you this is real life. And Michael's going to have to leave halfway through our conversation to go to the dentist. So I woke him up this morning and said, Michael, I got this great idea. Any chance to be willing to record with us today. So, thanks for being a shrieper. Yeah. You're my mom. I can't say no. I hope you can say no. Yeah. I hope I raised you to say no. Okay. You did. Yeah. Okay, cool. So, John, there are always been challenges with Christians engaging in culture. |
| 2:36.0 | I can think of the kind of things that your predecessor, Chuck Colson, was dealing with in the 70s, in the 80s, in the 90s, with issues regarding pro-life and abortion were some of the hot topics. |
| 2:49.0 | And there were others in terms of you know how |
| 2:52.2 | should we vote and how involved should we be in politics but i would say that the last five or |
| 2:58.1 | ten years have really just the whole conversation has shifted and continues to shift in such a way |
| 3:04.8 | that it's hard for us to even keep up to date with what's happening |
