0:30.0 | Hi, my name is John Mark. Of course, you know that voice, that sexy voice, that alluring voice from the previous episode with Tammy Brown and John Mark. And of course, John Mark, my guests on this episode of Craig and friends, the director and co creator of the Browns and stylist photographer director of many, many other projects, which I'm looking forward to getting into, but we were just talking about how long it's been since we've |
1:00.0 | seen each other, which it was over two years. Yeah. And it was at the fabulous Tammy Brown, Gala. Yeah, she did a Gala at hamburger marries and long beach. It was really fun. But it's like a time is just spending, you know, time space. It's been a minute. It really has what's lovely to see you get. It looks nice in here. It looks like maybe you added some lights or you know, I did. That's right. Then when you were here before, it was a little stark in terms of the lighting. So what it did was got the hue lighting system. And. |
1:30.0 | There are LED lights, which means that I think they last about 20 to 30 years. I'm not sure the studies are in here. Versatile and sustainable lighting. It's important. And something that you yeah. |
1:40.9 | Brought to you by the hue corporation. Yes. Now lighting, of course, is important to you. Very important. Yeah. As a director, what's the first thing that you think of when you have a project that you're about to attack? What is the first thing that I think of? I guess the story. Yeah. |
1:57.3 | I guess the story or the vibe, the tone, the energy. Yeah. I'm not like I would say like I'm a director producer before I am a writer, though I do write a lot. |
2:09.9 | So a lot of times the first impulse is something visual that comes to mind. So you get an image and a sort of vibe maybe as the sort of getting principle. |
2:21.3 | Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. |
2:23.3 | The new season of the browns has a new home, right? It does. Yeah. We've scaled considerably this time around. I mean, the first the first season. |
2:34.7 | I have a hard time even calling a first season because what it really was was a Frankenstein of all the Instagram episodes that we did. Sure. |
2:43.9 | So out TV had wanted to order an episode of the browns right as the pandemic hit. So I was like, okay, what can we do here? |
2:55.0 | How can we still give the show some mileage and figure out a way to evangelize it more with the world? |
3:00.7 | So we took all of the short form episodes from Instagram. And we had had like additional scenes and footage that we had cut |
3:09.0 | because we were making the show for that like, you know, one to two minute format. So we kind of Frankensteined it together. |
3:17.0 | Myself and my editor Eric Colash. And it's honestly a miracle that the first season is as coherent as it is because of how it was made. |
3:29.7 | So the second season was a really fun challenge because we actually got to write for the half hour television format. |
3:38.7 | Yeah. And what's the writing process like for the browns? |
3:43.9 | For our show, it just starts with like a lot of conversations, conversations between myself and page who's the head writer on the show, |
3:52.3 | myself and Tammy and Sheila. And I I usually start by writing just an outline of the whole season, kind of the arc as a whole. |
4:02.2 | And again, the sort of the beginning of it starts with this image that strikes you. Right. Like a sort of vision of the vibe and the mood. |
4:09.1 | Yeah, absolutely. And we also the with the end of the first season, we were kind of left with a big question like Tammy like fled. |
4:18.0 | So when we that was kind of the one fixed narrative element we had to deal with in season two. |
