But first, the government has announced the expansion of a scheme

to help energy-intensive industries with their bills

in response to the recent surge in energy prices caused by the war in the Middle East.

An existing scheme will be extended to a further 3,000 businesses in sectors such as steel and pharmaceuticals,

bringing the total up to 10,000. Eligible firms will see their energy costs cut by about a quarter, payable from next April.
