This is popular front a podcast focused on the niche details of modern warfare and

0:08.9

underreported conflict with me Jake Hanrahan. Today we're speaking to journalist Jeff White. We're

0:17.6

going to be talking about North Korea's Cyber War. Believe it or not

0:21.4

North Korea has a very serious hacking team. They've been causing

0:25.7

disruption to South Korea and various other countries across the world. Also stealing lots and lots of money specifically in

0:33.6

cryptocurrency and funneling it all back to the Kim Jong-un regime.

0:38.4

It's a very interesting under-reported topic.

0:41.2

support us at patreon.com slash popular front. I think a lot of people don't immediately think of you know high-tech hacking when it comes to

maybe you can just explain to us what is the

1:23.7

Lazarus group? Yeah, well fair enough I mean the Lazarus group themselves

1:26.7

probably don't refer to themselves as Lazarus group. That's the name they've been

1:29.6

given by others. But they are according to security researchers, North Korea's government hackers.

1:36.3

It's fair to say, most countries now, vast majority of governments have computer hackers working

1:41.0

on their behalf. We certainly do in the UK and unsurprisingly

1:44.0

perhaps given it's an incredibly militaristic society North Korea has a group of

1:49.0

government hackers what makes them slightly different is the way they act, the way they operate and their objectives,

1:55.1

which is often, as we'll probably see in the course of the interview, to try and steal cash to prop up

1:59.9

the North Korean regime.
