Summary

Throughout my training and practice as a physician, I have come to one very disappointing conclusion: Western medicine isn’t helping people lead better lives. Now that I’ve realized this, I’ve become obsessed with understanding what makes us healthy or ill. I want to live the best life I can and I want to be able to share this knowledge with others so that they can do the same. This podcast is the result of my relentless search to understand the roots of chronic disease. If you want to know how to live the most radical life possible I hope you’ll join me on this journey. On this week's podcast I really wanted to dive into mental illness it's something I thought about a lot.

1:37.0

And I think that's a lot of the things that I think about the most important thing is that we have all of the aspects of medicine mental illness is perhaps one of the most anachronistic isn't anachronism it is stuck in the past it's 5200 years behind everything else we're still using.

1:47.0

Treatment paradigms that are 50 years old we're not really changing our treatment paradigms within Western medicine.

1:52.0

When we are looking at psychiatric illness and it's a tragedy because so many people continue to suffer and that is super sad.

1:59.0

And so eating disorders because when you look at animal based diets people will look at them and say this is a restrictive diet it's going to cause eating disorders or disorder eating and in fact as you'll hear in this podcast there's good evidence that being intentional that your diet and cutting out foods that may inflame your gut or cause leaky gut or lead to neuroinflammation through any one of those mechanisms may in fact be a massively powerful intervention for eating disorders how about that.

2:24.0

And then the evolutionary appropriate diet might actually help a lot of people i've never seen a causing any disorder ever so it's a very powerful tool so that's why I wanted to talk about these things I know many of you may know someone or have depression anxiety mental illness of some sort eating disorders at the end of this podcast they never you make chat him.

2:42.0

And then we'll be gathering here in Costa Rica and as our own really powerful story of anorexia and how an animal based diet help that so that's a good case study into that specifically and I try and tie it all together and give you guys some actionable tools to take away and think about with your diet when you are struggling or you if you know someone who's struggling with the mental health illness be a depression anxiety a psychotic disorder binge eating disorder anorexia or bulimia or any of those because I think that our paradigm with regard to those needs to change.

3:11.0
