This is David Scales.

Bring you another episode, actually, of Surf News.

And this one is a little bit more specific in our focus on what we're talking about today.

Scott and I wanted to get together to discuss the upcoming Quicksilver Pro event at Snapper Rocks.

Just to kind of give an overview on the 2017 season, who's new on tour and what we are predictions,

which of course are never even close to being correct but predictions and

what to expect and that sort of stuff some news actually just came through yesterday um actually this

is the breaking news it's not even public yet but i just heard through the grapevine that john john

florence is bringing on a new full-time coach, and that is Ross Williams.

So Ross is actually going to be stepping down from his commentary position with the WSL for this

season or maybe for indefinitely, and he's taking on a full-time coaching position with John-John.

So that is strictly gossip.

It's an unverified rumor at this point,

but if it turns out to be correct, you heard it here first. And if it turns out to be incorrect,

why don't you forget that you heard this at all? But I think that could actually be a really

interesting. I think it could be a really good move, actually. I think that Ross Williams, not only is he a phenomenal surfer, his fundamentals are so sound. And I think that he's also particularly smart. I think that he's also particularly articulate. So I think that he could be a great fit for John John just in being able to analyze and assess John's surfing, his boards, the waves at any given spot, and then be able to communicate with John.

So, you know, I don't know that Ross has done any coaching in the past, but, and I don't even know really what the qualifications are for a great coach, because we've seen guys like Glenn Hall, who aren't the top-level surfer, turn into a top-level coach, actually the most notable coach in recent years, bringing Tyler Wright to a world title and, of course, Matt
