This is a glorious time of year. I subscribe to B.J. Fogg's ideas that

New Year's resolutions for the most part don't work. I've met plenty of them to which I have not stuck. But I like the

new year because it just feels like a great reset. I know it's arbitrary. I know all the things about the

calendars and and all that. I still like it. It's just a nice switch over and

there's some motivation there.

Motivation doesn't last long.

I'm not really advocating setting grand

New Year's resolutions as it relates to completely whipping your finances into shape

to where they're perfect or completely beating your addiction to sugar. But whatever it may be, I like the new year because it's a time to reflect a little bit,

look back, think how things went, and most importantly, and where I truly get excited is to look forward and

think about what's coming.

Julie and I did that just this morning.

We sat down, we had the budget all reconciled, and it was our big 2015 kind of

brain meld, where she comes, I come, and we decide what are goals for 2015. Not goals in the

grand sense like we want the kids to be able to do this or we want to do that

but our financial goals. What are things going to look like? Will the budget change?

Should we reassess something?

So every year we go through the budget and we kind of try and look at it through a new

lens or with fresh eyes and we look at the next year and kind of assess

looking at you know we realistic for the prior years, what things need to change?
