Weakness is provocative to predators. The more signals you send somebody like that, the more likely it is they're going to keep pushing the boundaries and trying to hurt you. Violence. Today's episode is all about it, and Jiu-Jitsu, teacher and legend Matt Thornton will be taking us through

the complexities and evolutionary causes of violence as well as the lessons that we can learn from it.

He'll tell us some of the harrowing stories of mindless violence, some of them pretty

excruciating and explain what it is that causes violence.

it was recent guest Peter Bogotian who first

recommended I invite Matt on the show and I'm really happy he did because it was

absolutely fascinating and perhaps you know for someone listening

very important stuff to hear we did encounter some internet and

audio problems which have tried to clear up and edit and erase the extra audio stuff as much as possible in post

but apologies for that and hope you still enjoy. Do buy Matt's book The Gift of

Violence to learn about the different things that violence can teach us and how it can be avoided.

Most importantly, how we might notice the signs of violence in advance and avoid predators and assailants. One of the most significant

lessons that he teaches me I think is to stop worrying about being impolite or

politically incorrect or whatever it might be and to trust my gut

in circumstances that provoke fear.
