Are church membership councils necessary?

Membership in the church has to mean something or it doesn't really have a point.

I want to be part of an organization that works to maintain its integrity that strives to do what it says to walk the

walk and talk the talk. The integrity of the church is not protected by concealing or minimizing

serious sins. Would it surprise you if I told you a president of the church was brought before

a membership council? We get the very first case brought to the High Council, and it just makes me chuckle every

time I read it. Hello, Scott. Hello, Casey. How are we doing? Pretty good. These are some of my

favorite sections of the Doctrine Covenants, you know, where we start seeing the church, as we know it today,

come into form. Most of these sections are about the crisis that's going on in Missouri and the March of

Zion's camp. But there's one little section here that sometimes gets overlooked because it's

kind of an oddball in the doctrine covenant. It's not really a revelation, but it's based on revelation.

It's minutes from a council meeting. And usually the idea of minutes don't get people

really excited. But I guess I'm just that kind of person that likes the minutia of church

government. Casey, how many times this year have you said, these are my favorite sections of

the doctrine and covenants? I know, I know. But it's like asking like which one of my kids is my

favorite, you know? I genuinely do love all of them.

I like teaching Section 102, for instance, because it seems like it comes out of nowhere for most people.

Most people aren't aware of what it's saying or what the message is.

So it's new material for most people, which is kind of fun.

Yeah, literally, like, Section 102 is one of those sections where it's not a revelation.
