Hi everybody, this is Joe Lample, the Joe Behind Joe Gardner, and welcome to the Joe Gardner

Show.

Our conversation on seeds continues today, and it's a good one.

Last week I talked with Diane Ott Waley, the co-founder of Seedsabers Exchange.

Little did Diane know that her kitchen table non-profit she started with her husband 45

years ago would grow to one of the most important seed saving resources in the world, with a collection

of over 20,000 varieties and thousands of members.

Along with that growth, they've grown to over 50 very talented full-time employees, including

today's guest, Dr. Phil Kalf, he's the director of preservation for Seedsabers.

Phil's job to oversee and protect this massive and treasured collection of heirloom seeds,

and that is a very big important job.

But he's just the person to do that, along with his team, that manage all the details

of that responsibility.

Phil comes from a diverse background of horticulture pedigree from the University of Florida, and

after a few interesting plant-related jobs around the country, he finally landed at Seedsabers

as his permanent home in 2013.

So today we continue that discussion on the profession of seed saving with Phil Kalf, as
