Summary

Summer is here! And with this glorious time of year can also come the pressure to plan the most perfect summer ever. We are here to tell you that perfect is not the goal. Being intentional about the type of summer that is right for your individual family is so much more important than trying to make what you perceive “everyone else is doing” fit into your life. In this episode Becky P. walks us through some very specific questions to answer as you decide what you want this summer to look like. Whether you decide on a lot of structure, being easy and carefree, or something in between, you will be able to make the decision with the confidence that you are choosing the vibe you and your family need this summer. SPONSOR: Visit [classroom.beckyhiggins.com](https://classroom.beckyhiggins.com/) to learn more about our available online courses. SHOW NOTES: JOURNALING EXERCISE // 5 questions to ask: 1 - What has changed in your family and in your life since last summer? 2 - What is your most scarce resource? 3 - What do you think your family needs right now? 4 - How do I want the summer to feel in my home? 5 - What are our biggest rocks? What are our highest priorities? Using your answers to the questions above as your guide, think through the following categories as you cultivate the mindset you want for this summer: STRUCTURE // Screen Time: How much time do I want my kids on screens? What are the parameters for when that is okay? What does screen time include (phones, tablets, TV, video games, etc.) // Summer Jobs // Chores // Standing Activities – pool, movies, park, etc. VACATIONS // Do you want to take a vacation? Do you want to include your kids in that conversation or have the parents decide? ACTIVITIES // Not everything has to be meaningful. Hey everybody, this is Becky Higgins and with me is my friend, my co-host, my summer looking

0:24.6

forward to friend, Becky Profitt. The thing about summer is, I look so forward to the beginning

0:30.4

of summer and my equal parts look forward to the end of summer. All the looking up, all the

0:35.9

looking forward. But really funny is that's how I felt at the beginning of a school year too.

0:39.7

I think the point here is times and seasons and so when we head into a new season, we also look

0:44.4

forward to, you know, kind of the other side of that too. Isn't that interesting? Yeah, I think

0:48.3

that's a better way to be though than dreading everything because I could very easily be like,

0:51.6

oh, I'm scared about summer. Oh, and I'm scared about school year and I'm scared. I don't want to

0:55.3

be scared. I just want to look up. But if I'm being totally honest, sometimes I have to get

1:01.6

right in the head with summer because I want to make sure that I am clear about what is going to

1:07.4

happen. If I'm not clear what's going to happen, I will start to look online in Pinterest, which is

1:13.1

the best slash worst thing ever. And be like, oh, we should have superstructure. Oh, wait,

1:16.9

that short chart looks good. Oh, wait, well, this looks good. Maybe we should learn. Is it bad if

1:20.5

I'm not doing school like I start to really, I can kind of see you going down that rabbit hole

1:24.9

real fast. Yep, yep. So I need to get real clear in the head about what it is I want. And more

1:31.2

than that, what my family needs from the summer. And because you've done that, we all get to benefit.

1:35.7

That's the best part of podcasting ever. Thank you guys for showing up so that I can figure out
