misunderstood condition that can look a lot like ADHD.

About 20% of people with ADHD also suffer from bipolar disorder which is a quite serious mental

illness characterized by alternating

depressive and manic episodes. Since both conditions share some

symptoms and ADHD is much more common by polar disorder is often missed or misdiagnosed.

In fact, many patients don't receive an accurate diagnosis of bipolar disorder until adulthood,

even though their symptoms commonly begin in childhood. In addition, patients with

both ADHD and bipolar disorder are at quite high risks for more severe symptoms of both conditions. So an accurate diagnosis is pretty important.

We're so happy to have Dr. Robert Oliveria. He'll be discussing how depressive and manic

episodes of bipolar disorder are different from ADHD related mood

states, the risks associated with a dual diagnosis of both ADHD and bipolar disorder, and

some thoughts about the best treatment team and plan for patients with

ADHD with bipolar disorder or with both. Dr. Olavardio is a clinical instructor psychology of the Harvard Medical School and a clinical associate at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts.

He has a private psychotherapy practice in Lexington, Massachusetts where he specializes in the treatment of ADHD, body dysmorphic disorder,
