When most people think of cults, they think of the 70s, the 80s, and the 90s.

But in the early 1900s, the new thought movement inspired many people across the United States

to take their spiritual life in a new direction.

So behind this whole movement was a woman named Mae Otis Blackburn.

And she would take this new culture of spiritualism and create one of the strangest cults the

US had seen to date.

Each trumpet would signal a catastrophic event leading to the end of the world and God's

final judgment.

The sun would become black as sackcloth of hair, the moon would become the color of blood,

stars and comets would fall from the sky, and they were visited by the angel Gabriel.

And he told them, they were the two witnesses that God had chosen to announce the end of the

world.
