This is K.M. Wyland and you are listening to the 349th episode of the helping writers become authors

podcast. I've been reminded this summer of how important it is for writers to

take time to decompress it can be so easy to feel like we have no choice but to rush

from task to task and try to cram in as much as possible within every day. And this is certainly

my go-to mode. I'm good at intensity, drive, focus, but relaxing,

processing, appreciating the moment, or just being, not so much. So I've been working on that this summer. Or really I

hesitate to say working since that kind of defeats the whole process, but I'm

learning how to give myself little spaces within the day to listen to my body and relax my mind and just appreciate the world around me.

Honestly, I've been shocked to realize how much I miss in my daily life, just little things

like the way the sun looks through the leaves when you're in your tree, or the way the clouds

move when a thunderstorm is passing through.

So I can already feel the benefits of giving myself these moments to

decompress and I know my writing is going to feel it too.

So I encourage you to give it a try as well.

Give yourself five minutes every so often to just breathe.
