Summary

What do the Royal Family, Jude Law, Cindy Crawford, and Machine Gun Kelly all share in common? Their perfumer, Azzi Glasser.

Azzi, Founder of The Perfumer's Story, is not just a perfumer to the stars; she also perfumes the characters they play on screen. For Jude Law, she created his vetiver-forward signature scent; for his role as King Henry VIII, she created one that smelled like pus. And blood. And shit.

Move over Stanislavski. The Glasser Method has arrived.

Welcome back to the perfume room. I say welcome back because we have been on a little two-week summer hiatus. I've missed you. I'm so happy to be back. Let's kick things off as we always do with my

0:22.9

scent of the day. My scent of the day today is one that I love to come back to time and time again.

0:28.7

And it's actually the fragrance that Alayton, who is the fragrance specialist of Bergdorf's past

0:34.5

perfume room guest, love him. But if you remember, like, I think maybe it was a

0:38.1

year and a half ago at this point, maybe even two years ago, my mom and I wandered into Bergdorfs

0:42.3

one day and ended up spending like two and a half hours with the layton. And my mom found a new

0:47.1

scent with his recommendation. And that is what I'm wearing today. It is Paris Monte Carlo

0:52.2

Aztec. This is a peppery-spiced dark chocolate fragrance

0:57.1

that feels edible but not in any sort of traditional gourmand perfume kind of way. More in fact,

1:04.0

like if you've ever smelled an artisanal bitter dark chocolate bar, you know those ones that cost like

1:08.2

$20 and they have flavors like cardamom sea salt or lavender rose hibiscus or chili pepper?

1:13.8

Those ones that smell so beautiful and not conventionally edible that you want to eat them, not because it smells like dessert, but specifically because it doesn't.

1:25.1

Cacao Aztec is kind of like that.

1:26.8

It's bitter and it's warm and biting and

1:29.6

floral and diffusive and it's not a fragrance that I think is like mass appealing, safe blind by.

1:35.4

So I'm going to share with you a few fragrances that it at different times reminds me of.

1:39.9

Though I will say it doesn't quite smell like any of these. It's definitely its own thing.

1:43.9

There's nothing else like it that I've ever encountered. But if you like any of the following scents for any of the following reasons, you should definitely smell cacao as tech. Okay, so sometimes it reminds me a little bit of a Tellier-Cologne, Jasmine Angelique, because it too is sort of peppery and green and incensey and warm and floral.

2:02.6

But again, it's not a one-to-one.

2:04.9

Sometimes it even also reminds me of Serge Luton-Sant-Tal-Majschool because it has that warm

2:10.4

but bitter combination of cacao and sandalwood and florals.

2:15.0

But it also doesn't smell like a one-to-one of Saint-Ale-Magiscual.
