And welcome back to the Corpus delicti podcast and our wrongful convicted series.

This week, we have a new story for you that is kind of off the rails in my opinion. I feel like we

end up saying this every time, but it just keeps getting worse and worse how this happens and

how these things fall through the cracks that seem so obvious to us. And this one to me just

screams, how did this ever happen it was so obvious but then again

we're saying that every time our story this week begins with reuben and alya dan zinger they were

entrepreneurs and they owned their own store it was called fine furs by reuben so i'm thinking in my head, shawls, fur coats, you know, very high-end luxury items.

They were actually Holocaust survivors and they made their home in Dallas, Texas on May 6, 1980.

It was about 1 o'clock in the afternoon and two women of color walked into the shop.

One of the women asked for a certain product and 54-year-old Rubin turned to walk and go get the item.

And the Danzigers were caught off guard because this woman then pulled a gun, started demanding that they hand over

the furs and started stuffing them into a plastic trash bag. The woman holding the gun was wearing pink

pants. The other woman wore a navy blue jogging suit. These two women gathered the bags of furs.

They went to leave, but the woman in the pink pants

shot shot was then fired at Aya, but it missed. When the women realized it, they went to go

shoot her again, but Aya lied to them and said that she was dying of cancer and to please have mercy on her.

The shooter responded, well, we'll just let you suffer then. Okay, this woman's obviously

suffered enough. She's lived through the Holocaust. Her and her husband are survivors just

for him, her husband, to get gunned down in a robbery.

The two women left the scene and a Brown Datsun that was possibly driven by a red-haired, red-bearded man.
