Last week I touched on trials, as mentioned in Romans 5, so I thought I'd just spend

another podcast on the same theme, same related theme.

James 1 verses 2 through 4, my brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,

knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience, but let patience have its perfect

work, that you may be perfect and complete lacking nothing.

Alright, you've heard this before, so here are some reminders.

When you fall into a trial, James says we can joy because we know something is happening

behind the scenes, and that is the testing of our faith.

A trial is God's way of showing us how our faith is doing.

When the external events are difficult, we need to read it as a trial, a test, and when

a trial shows us, as they often do, how our faith is doing, then sometimes we're caught

up short, and so the point is when the trial presents itself, then it's time to count

it joy because our faith is being tested.

Now sometimes we invent trials, that's what worry is, we invent trials, we make up trials

and in our head, and then we start worrying about them, and so that doesn't even count.

That's like a whole separate temptation, but when a real trial hits, we're supposed

to count it all joy.

So when you think about this, when you're worrying about an imaginary trial that might

happen, one of the ways to get out of this temptation is to count it joy.

It's like, well, then if that happens, I'm going to count it joy, and God will be there

for me, and so I'm not going to worry about it, save it for when there's a real trial.
