Summary

In today’s episode, Lindsey Maestas dives into the tendency to feel discontent with life, always looking ahead to what’s next, even when we have exactly what we once prayed for.

If you're constantly waiting for the next relationship, job, baby, marriage, or next season of life, you're likely missing out on the beauty of what’s right in front of you.

Lindsey shares her personal experience of 'waiting for the next best thing' and what she's learning now. She discusses waiting for happiness, only to realize that she was “waiting her life away.”

She talks about why it's so dangerous--because tomorrow is never promised-- and how God calls us to slow down and trust His timing.

With a mix of biblical wisdom and practical advice, Lindsey challenges you to embrace the now, find peace in the present, and stop letting the hustle steal your joy. If you’ve been feeling like you’re always chasing the next thing, this episode is for you.

and kind of jumping to and from the next best thing. And this is something that Jesse and I

joke about and talk about a lot is that he could just be content at home doing almost nothing aside from being

0:41.0

with his family and playing pickleball and going to the gym and maybe the occasional trip to get some

0:48.2

hot wings that's pretty much it and for me i love exploring i love new things i love traveling i love all the things

0:59.7

but that often leads to me feeling more stressed out and more burdened by the expectations

that even i'm simply placing on myself they really really are just things that I'm, it's like

1:11.9

stressors that I'm giving myself. And it also leads to racing, racing and rushing to the next thing.

1:21.0

And while I am all about experiences and living well and living intentionally, I also realized that there have been things

1:29.8

that I have done that have stolen from my family and they were essentially selfish, right?

1:38.8

They were something that I wanted, that I felt like I needed, that I needed even to do with my

1:43.9

boys. Instead of just having a relaxing day at home, I felt like I needed, that I needed even to do with my boys.

1:45.1

Instead of just having a relaxing day at home, I felt like, oh, I need to take them to this new

1:49.7

event or adventure in Nashville or go and do this thing. And it leads to a more stressful day

1:56.7

and one with more conflict or tension than one at home.

2:02.0

I think our society as a whole, we hurry to grow up,

2:06.0

we hurried to get the promotion, to get married, to get the house,

2:10.0

to get the next vacation.

2:11.9

And then when we finally get there,

2:13.6

we're already looking ahead to the next thing.
