Over the course of three and a half years I finally got to a point where I had to make a deal with myself saying that if I don't finish his book sooner rather than later,

I'm never gonna finish the book.

So I gave myself a very hard deadline of,

I think it was a month out from me having this internal dialogue

about I need to finish this book and then I did

something that I had never done before I got out my checkbook because this is

back when we still use checks I got out my checkbook and I wrote out a check for $4,000 and I endorsed it to a friend of

mine who didn't need the money but he also lived down the street for me and he used someone that I could trust.

And I wrote out a contract between him and myself stating that I am agreeing to finish the manuscript for this book by such and such date which is a month away from me having this experience.

And if for whatever reason doesn't matter the excuse,

I do not finish the manuscript at that time

and my friend is obligated to take the check

that I'm including in this contract and to deposit it and to spend it on anything that has nothing to do with me.
